Meaning of health and population education

Health education is the combination of learning experiences designed to help individuals and communities improve their health by increasing their knowledge or influencing their attitudes. Health education is the defined as the principle by which individuals and groups of people learn to behave in manner conducive to the promotion, maintenance or restoration of health.
Education for health begins with people. It motivates them with whatever interests they have in improving their living conditions.
Its aim is to develop in them a sense of responsibility for health conditions for themselves as individuals, as members of families, and communities. Nepal needs to implement health education to the people so as to remove the traditional health behaviors. We need to encourage people to learn about healthy habits. Then they attempt to change their personal attitude about health. The world health organization define health education as "comprising of consciously constructed opportunities for learning involving some form of communication designed to improve health literacy, including improving knowledge, and developing life skills which are conducive to individual and community health". Health education is also an effective tool that helps improve health in developing nations. It not only teaches prevention and basic health knowledge but also conditions that re-shape everyday habits of people with unhealthy lifestyles in developing countries. Not only does this type of conditioning affect the immediate recipients of such education but also future generations will benefit from an improved and properly cultivated ideas about health that will eventually be ingrained with widely spread health education. Moreover, health education can also provide more aid and help people deal healthier with the situations of extreme stress, anxiety, depression or other emotional disturbances to lessen the impact of these sports mental emotional constituents, which can consequently lead to detrimental physical effect. Population education is a programme which helps in developing awareness and understanding of population situation as well as a rational attitude and behavior towards those situation for the attainment a quality of life of individual, family, community,nation and the world. The regional seminar on population and family life education, UNESCO, Bangkok, 1970 define "population education is an educational program which provides for a study of population situation in the family, community, nation and the world, with the purpose of developing in the students, rational and responsible attitudes and behavior towards the situation." The world "human population " refers to a group of people living in a specific time period in a certain geographical region. Thus, to be a population in a certain community, the person's physical presence is compulsory in a given specific time period. From the above definitions, it is clear that population education is the process of helping people to understand the nature, causes and implications of population processes as they affect, and are affected by, individuals, families, communities and nations. It is process which enables to understand their own population situation, factors that affect population, population problems and issues. It also motivates to develop positive attitudes and necessary competencies and behavior to address these problems to attain quality of life.
